Coffeehouses where you can tell a story. Or just listen. |

Are you a professional storyteller looking for a place to try out your works in progress? Are you someone who has never told a story before, but you can feel them dancing around inside you, wanting you to set them free? (And you would, if not for the stage fright.) Or are you someone who just plain loves listening to stories and you're looking for a place where they are being told? Well, whatever your reason, you should make it a point to try out one of these storytelling coffeehouses. |

There are many coffeehouses in the Greater Boston area that feature the folk arts. Most of them tend to be music oriented, but here are a few places that have specific nights set aside just for storytelling. (If you know of a venue that you'd like to see posted, by all means let me know. I'd be more than happy too. raelinda@tiac.net) |

Brother Blue & Ruth Hill's Storytelling Coffeehouse Open mic followed by a weekly featured teller. Every Tuesday night from 7pm-9:30pm Admission: $3 Currently at Sherrill Hall at the Episcopal Divinity School In Harvard Square, Cambridge.
This is truly the best storytelling coffeehouse on the planet. And I'm telling you this as someone who runs a different storytelling coffeehouse. It's not just a place where people try out new stuff, it's a community of spiritual, goofy, uncatagorizable souls who support and encourage each other in finding their truest, bravest stories and sharing them. The open mic slots are 8 minutes long. Names are drawn out of a hat. There is usually an hour of open mic tellers followed by a short break, and then the featured teller of the week. Alas, not everyone who signs up for the open mic can get on, but if you've never been there before then your name gets put in the 'first time tellers' hat and you almost always get picked.
